Maldives' freediving world record officially recognised

The world record made by the Maldives for most people freediving simultaneously has officially been registered on the Guinness Book of World Records on Tuesday.

Maldives was given a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the 'the most people freediving simultaneously' attempted at Baros lagoon as part of World Tourism Day celebrations earlier in October. The record was previously held by Verona, Italy with 280 people taking part in the dive. 512 divers took part in the record attempt in the Maldives, including President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and a large number of tourists visiting the country at the time.

The official website of Guinness Book of World Records lists the Tourism Ministry of Maldives as the record holder.
