Maldives Immigration has revealed that a man who attempted to enter Maldives on a forged passport was detained at the airport.
Immigration stated the 27-year old was detained at Velana International Airport (VIA) after he attempted to enter the country with a counterfeit passport. However, no further information was revealed.
The number of people being caught attempting to enter the country on counterfeit passports has increased in the recent months. Three people were detained just last month, while Immigration statistics reveal 11 people were detained this year until September for impersonation.
Immigration has been strengthening Maldives border security and is working with relevant authorities to combat human trafficking issues.
