Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that the number of flights operated to and from Velana International Airport (VIA) has increased to a record amount.
MACL said a record amount of 266 flight movements were observed at the country's main airport on December 1. In the past, the most number of movements recorded in one day was on December 1 last year, when 219 flight movements were recorded.
102 international flights and 121 domestic flights used the airport on December 1 this year, said MACL.
The peak tourism season of the archipelago is between November and April. While flight movements as well as tourist arrivals have increased during the peak season, the government achieved its vision to bring in a record 1.5 million tourists on November 27.
