Maldivian runner wins gold at South Asian Games

Maldivian runner Hassan Saaid on Tueday won a gold medal in the 100-meter event at the 13th South Asian Games ongoing at Kathmandu, Nepal.

Saaid completed the event in 10.49 seconds, winning the first gold medal for Maldives at this years' games. This is the first time the Maldives won a gold medal in the 35-year history of the South Asian Games.

Saaid is the fastest runner in Maldives. He previously won a gold medal for the country in 2015 in the 100 meter dash at the Indian Ocean Island Games. He won a silver medal in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash at the 12th South Asian Games in 2016.
