FENAKA employee in serious condition after being electrocuted

An employee of utility company FENAKA was electrocuted in Ga. Villingili on Sunday.

President of Ga. Atoll council Ahmed Fuad told AVAS that an employee of FENAKA, Ahmed Mufeed was electrocuted around 5:00 pm on Sunday evening while attempting to turn on an electric pump at a work site.

The man is in critical condition, and arrangements are being made to transport him to capital Male' for further treatment, said Fuad.

It has been reported that the incident occured when a supervisor at the water and sewerage project site of the island turned on a breaker while unaware that the employee had waded into a lake dug in the ground to turn on an electric pump to dry water accumulated in the pathway.

The atoll hospital in Villingili island confirmed that a man was being treated at the hospital following such an incident. No further details were disclosed.

A similar incident occurred in the island in 2016 where an employee of FENAKA tragically passed away after being electrocuted.
