Maldives Police Services have rescued people from a sinking fishing boat in the Adimagu lagoon near the Emboodhoo sandbank.
Maldives Police Service revealed that Marine Police arrived to assist the boat in distress when they received reports of the incident around 1030 hrs on Wednesday morning. Two expatriates out of the four crew members aboard the vessel were transported to capital Male' for treatment at state-run IGMH. Their condition is not serious, said the police.
Police further revealed that the remaining Maldivian and expatriate aboard the boat are also in good health. The boat has now been taken to a site being reclaimed near Emboodhoo lagoon by the police with the assistance of the crew.
"We advise all to take caution in this weather, and not take any trips that are not absolutely necessary for your safety and protection," the official said.
Due to heavy rainfall, the streets of Male' were heavily flooded earlier on Wednesday. While rainfall has halted for now, MET Office anticipates rain for the next 24 hours. They have also advised people to take caution in traveling due to the bad weather and rough seas.
