The government allocates a plot of land today to build UAE’s Embassy from the land area designated to foreign embassies at the Second Phase of Hulhumale’ to bring all the foreign embassies to one place.
Previously plots of lands were allocated from the “Diplomatic Enclave” (the land area set-aside to foreign embassies) to India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and China, to establish their embassies. However, the government has not revealed the size of the lands allocated to any of these countries and UAE.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the main purpose of setting-aside a land area to establish a “Diplomatic Enclave” is for ease of providing safety and security to the embassies as practiced in most of the other countries.
Furthermore, the Ministry said that one of the other reasons is that Male’ is already overcrowded and given that many other foreign embassies will be established in the Maldives in the future and that there will be space constraints. Hence, it was decided to designate a land area, especially for the embassies. The Ministry further added that this would also lessen the burden of vehicle parking faced by the embassies
