Tourist arrivals have increased by 14.9% thus far this year, the Ministry of Tourism has revealed.
Statistics released by the ministry show 1.5 million tourists visited the archipelago from January until the end of November. The numbers show that 52% of arrivals are women.
While 137,913 tourists visited the popular destination during November alone, this is an increment of 9.8% in comparison to the same period last year, during which 125,604 tourists visited the country.
This year, the most number of tourists arrived from China, with 267,876 tourists. This is an increment of 0.6% from the Chinese market.
India follows behind with 145,047 tourists visiting the Maldives, an increment of 9.13%. The third-most number of tourists arrived from Germany, with 115,049 tourists visiting the Maldives. This is an increase of 12.7%. United Kingdom comes in fourth, with 144,222 arriving from the country. This is a 10% hike compared to the previous year.
Maldives welcomed its 1.5 millionth tourist in November in a grand ceremony at Velana International Airport (VIA). Tourism Ministry said 1.6 million tourists have visited the country this year until now.
