Record number of flight movements on Dec 22

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that a record number of flights were operated to and from the country's main airport on December 22.

While the most number of flights movements recorded in the past at Velena International Airport was 226, as observed on December 1st this year, MACL said 239 movements were recorded on December 22, making a new record for a second time this year.

MACL said 101 international flights and 121 domestic flights used the airport on December 22 this year, and 17 other flights were operated to and from the airport the same day.

The peak tourism season of the archipelago is between November and April. While flight movements as well as tourist arrivals have increased during the peak season, the government achieved its vision to host a record 1.5 million tourists on November 27.
