Main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has opened applications for those interested in contesting in the party's primaries in the upcoming local council election.
MDP on Monday said candidates who wish to contest for island, atoll and city councils on party tickets can now send in their applications to contest in the party primary.
The relevant forms must be submitted along with supporting documents to the party secretariat before January 10, 2020, said MDP. A document that shows the candidate has an endorsement from party members is also required to be submitted along with the application.
MDP's primary is slated for 31st January 2020.
While 980 officials will be elected to councils in the upcoming local council election scheduled for April 4th, 33% of all councils have been reserved for women.
