MDP to kick-off LCE campaign on Feb 21

Main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will be officially kicking off their campaign for the upcoming local council election on February 21.

The party's LCE campaign manager Ahmed 'Saabe' Shahid during the party's national council meeting held Tuesday revealed that the campaign will kick off simultaneously in all inhabited islands of the archipelago. A rally which will be attended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed will be held that day, and rallies will be held across the country at the same time, he said.

Saabe further said campaign posters of all MDP candidates will be put up in all inhabited islands this Friday.

MDP has prepared a separate manifesto for each inhabited island for the local council election. Candidates who will represent the party for constituencies for which tickets have not yet been granted will also be arranged soon, said Saabe.

The Elections Commission of Maldives has opened submission of candidacy papers for the local council election until February 20. The election in which over 980 officials will be elected is slated for April 4.
