In this regard, it is of extreme importance to commence dialogues in line with ILO standards to address the issues currently faced by the industry within a given timeline, and to formulate an action plan on it, said NFME.

They appealed for all to work towards the development of the industry and requested to refrain from any activities that may damage the industry.
The Ministry ofo Tourism recently revealed that Tourism Employees Association of the Maldives (TEAM), an association advocating for the rights of tourism employees had requested the ministry to provide a letter making it mandatory for resort management to pay a fee of US$ 6.50 per employee to TEAM.
The Tourism Minister had announced on popular social media platform Twitter that he would not give in to the demands of TEAM, adding that due process will be followed in dealing with resorts that were flagged during a special audit conducted by the ministry, for neglecting to provide employees with their service charge.
