Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that a record number of flights were operated to and from the country's main airport on January 5.
While the most number of flights movements recorded in the past at Velena International Airport was 239 as observed on December 22 last year, MACL said 252 movements were recorded on January 5, making a new record for the first time this year. The total reaches 811 flight movements including 559 seaplane movements, said MACL.
The peak tourism season of the archipelago is between November and April. While flight movements as well as tourist arrivals have increased during the peak season, the government achieved its vision to host a record 1.5 million tourists last year on November 27.
