A man has died after a speed boat capsized on Wednesday.
Police said a speed boat of Noku Maldives Island resort capsized this evening, and that authorities received reports of the incident around sunset.
While seven people were aboard the vessel at the time of the incident, this includes two tourists, four members of the crew and a local staff of the resort. A dinghy boat from the resort went to assist the boat after it capsized, and those traveling in the boat were rescued, said the police.
However, there was one casualty in the accident, revealed the police. A 51 year old local man who was an employee of the resort swallowed too much sea water and lost consciousness as a result. He did not regain consiousness and died, said the police.
The police are investigating the case further.
