Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the average occupancy rate of local resorts during 2019 was at 74.1%.
Tourist arrival statistics publicized by the Tourism Ministry show 157 tourist resorts were established in the Maldives, out of which 146 resorts were operational by the end of 2019. The average occupancy rate of the resorts was 74.1%.
The statistics show the highest number of tourists visited the archipelago during the peak tourism season, especially around the new year and christmas holidays. The occupancy rate was at 84.9% during that period.
While the occupancy rate increased to 94% during February, the rate declined mid-year, with the occupancy rate falling to 56% in September.
A record 1.7 million tourists arrived in the Maldives in 2019, achieving the administration's target of hosting 1.5 million tourists in an year.
