Secretary General of main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party, Anas Abdul Sattar has won party tickets to contest for Male' city mayorship in the upcoming local council election.
Seven candidates ran for the post in the party's primary held Friday, including current Mayor of Male' city Shifa Mohamed and Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef.
SG Anas confirmed his ticket after competing closely with Mayor Shifa, who came second.
All candidates ran strong campaigns ahead of the primary. Several senior officials of the government endorsed and campaigned for some candidates over the last few weeks.
