Agreement signed for construction of Dharumavantha School

An agreement has been signed between the Education Ministry and SJ Construction Pvt Ltd for the reconstruction of Dharumavantha School in capital Male'.

The project was handed over to SJ Construction Pvt Ltd for MVR 74.9 million at a ceremony held at the Education Ministry on Tuesday. The company has been awarded several projects in the recent months.

The project agreement was signed by Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali on behalf of the ministry. Director of the company Ibrahim Shihad signed the agreement on behalf of the contractor.

According to the agreement, the new building has to be completed within a period of 365 days.

Speaking following the signing ceremony, Minister Aishath Ali said the project is part of last year's PSIP. Dharumavantha School will become the first model school in Maldives to offer holistic education in addition to being a single-session school, said the minister.

The minister added that the project must be completed and handed over by April 2021, and revealed that the government hopes to open the building for the 2022 academic year.

The new building of Dharumavantha School is designed to have the capacity to accomodate 1000 students. 41 classrooms will be built, with a capacity of 25 students per class.
