The Election Commission (EC) of the Maldives has stated that 545 ballot boxes will be placed in different locations for the upcoming local council election.
EC's Vice President Ahmed Akram said 173 ballot boxes will be placed in Male’ and 322 in the atolls. 42 ballot boxes will be placed in industrial islands and resorts and eight ballot boxes in foreign countries where Maldivians are largely populated.
“We can confirm the number of ballot boxes after re-registration”, said Akram.
Akram said work is underway to keep ballot boxes in new locations such as the National Stadium and Henveiru Grounds.
EC has opened for the applications of the councillors as well as for Women’s Development Committee members (WDCs) and has opened the opportunity for observers and monitors to work in the local council election.
