Godown in Maafushi catches on fire

A godown in local tourism island Maafushi caught on fire on Friday.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) stated they received a report of the fire incident on Friday morning. Upon receiving the news, the fire and rescue services of MNDF was mobilized, and the flames were quelled with the assistance of the correctional officers in Maafushi, the police and the public. However, significant damage was caused to the store due to the fire.

The godown is located in the building where the boarding school for troubled boys was previously run. The school was dissolved in the 1990s. Currently, the building is utilised by Maafushi Council Office as a storeroom.

The police are investigating the incident.
