A workshop on combating violent extremism targeted to the education sector was held in Lh.Naifaru. This is the 8th workshop held in the Maldives under the programme to raise awareness and to enlighten the role of the education sector in combating violent extremism.
The National Counter Terrorism Centre organized the workshop, that was held at the Madhurasathul Ifthithaah of Lh. Naifaru. Thirty-three participants from four schools of the atoll attended the workshop that was held for one-day.
The programme was inaugurated by Senior Policy Director, Moosa Naeem, who highlighted the critical role of senior officials of the schools in combating the violent extremism. The sessions of the workshop were delivered by NCTC and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Maldives Islamic University, Dr Saudhulla Ali.
The workshop was held jointly by NCTC, Education Ministry, MNDF, UNDP Maldives with the assistance of Japan. Under the programme, workshops were in held for schools of Male, Addu, Gdh. Atoll, Hdh. Atoll, and L. Atoll, in the past two years.
