Elections Commission has revealed that the required amount of voters have re-registered for voting at only one local resort.
50 voters must re-register from interested resorts to qualify for the resort to have a ballot box placed on the island.
Deputy President of the commission and Chief Spokesperson Ahmed Akram said the commission opened opportunity to keep ballot boxes for voting in the upcoming local council election at 53 different resorts. However, the required number of voters to qualify to keep a ballot box at the location re-registered from only one resort, said Akram.
"50 people need to re-register at the island for us to arrange to keep a ballot box at the resort. As of the data we had until yesterday, a ballot box will be placed at Club Med Kanifinolhu Resort only," said Akram on Monday.
The local council election is slated for April 4. 980 officials will be elected to island, atoll and city councils in the election.
