Govt launches National Strategic Framework to mobilise International Climate Finance

The National Strategic Framework to mobilise international climate finance in the Maldives within the next five years has been launched.

The framework was launched by Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan at a ceremony held at Hotel Jen on Monday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Hussain said the strategic framework was established to seek assistance to address challenges faced by the country due to climate change and other environmental issues.

The minister said the current administration is working hard to minimize the impact of climate change. He further acknowledged that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih paid special attention to tackle environmental challenges.

Under the five-year framework, the Maldives will submit 31 projects at the Green Climate Fund. The projects will require a funding of MVR 438 million. The pipeline was prepared after extensive discussion with the relevant government entities, island councils, civil organizations and private businesses.
