Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has revealed that the government has allocated a PSIP budget of MVR 1.8 billion to tackle environmental issues, while an additional MVR 247 million has been allocated for the renewable energy sector.
The minister made the statement at a ceremony held to launch the National Strategic Framework to mobilise International Climate Finance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Hussain Rasheed said while the Maldivian economy is dependent on a few natural resources, the country spends a large amount on addressing environmental issues. The government gives special priority to the issues, said the minister.
