COVID-19: Govt to collect information on the elderly

Gender Ministry has stated that they have begun collecting information on people over 65 years of age in the Maldives. The measure is being taken to be well-prepared during the current global COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the ministry, they instigated the work because it is known that the people who are at most risk of COVID-19 are the elderly. In the countries most severely affected with the virus, the most number of COVID-19 related deaths are of the elderly.

A form has been designed to collect information about people over 65-years of age, which any person above 65 years of age is required to fill. The form collects basic information about the person in addition to the current medical condition.

13 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives thus far. While five people have recovered from the illness, the number of active cases is eight.
