The government has revealed that permission has not been granted to any resort operator to transfer employees between resorts.
The government made the announcement during a news brief held on Sunday to provide information on the latest developments of COVID-19.
There have been reports that the government has permitted the companies that operate more than one resort, to transfer employees between resorts. Responding to a question raised by a reporter regarding the matter, the government’s spokesperson Mabrook Azeez said that the government has not granted permission to transfer employees between resorts.
However, permission was granted to one resort operator to transfer tourists from one resort to a particular resort, said Mabrook.
“Permission was granted to one resort operator to transfer tourists from other resorts to one resort. I do not think that a document has been issued permitting to transfer employees. There is no such permission issued to date”, said Mabrook.
As a measure to protect from COVID-19, the government has banned travels in between resorts as well as travels between resorts and the inhabited islands of the Maldives. Employees can only leave from resorts 14 days after the departure of the last tourist in the resort.
Some employees have been arrested from resorts for violating the government’s orders.
