National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has revealed that currently, three patients infected with COVID-19 are being treated at Dharumavantha Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
An ICU has been established to treat patients infected with COVID-19 pandemic in Dharumavantha Hospital, the extension building of the main government hospital, IGMH. The 4 bed ICU is located on the 11th floor of the building.
In a news brief held Monday night, IGMH’s medical doctor, Dr Ibrahim Afzal has said currently two locals and a Pakistani national are being treated at the ICU. They are an 80-year-old Maldivian man, 68-year-old Maldivian man, and a 48-year-old Pakistani man. Dr Afzal further said the condition of the two elderly locals at the ICU is not serious.
Dr Afzal said an oxygen therapy is being provided to the Pakistani national since he is low on oxygen. He tested positive on Sunday. He first visited the private “Tree Top Hospital” located in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale' upon exhibiting symptoms of the virus, after which he visited IGMH. He was tested for the virus after that. Thus, his contact tracing is ongoing.
Some other patients of COVID-19 who have now recovered were also treated in the ICU.
