Pres forms National Task Force to mitigate socioeconomic impacts of COVID-19

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established a national task force in response to the adverse effects on the national economy, the society and the livelihoods of the public due to measures put in place to safeguard the Maldives community from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President's Office said the decision to establish the 'National Task Force on Resilience Building and Economic Recovery' was announced by the president during the Cabinet Minister's meeting held on April 13.

According to the President's Office, the foremost directive of the Task force is to facilitate swift national economic recovery. The task force would invite suggestions and support from stakeholders in all industries in order to expedite recovery models and would be responsible for the acquisition of funds for such activities. The Administration's stance on this is that the public sector including SOEs, private sector and civil societies would collaborate towards this common goal, said the President's Office.

The directives are already being implemented through different agencies. The Government aims for the task force to collaborate with the different sectors of the country to present ideal and transparent solutions for all directives in the mandate.
