Quarantine escapees remanded to 15-day custody

Five people who fled from a quarantine facility on Wednesday have been remanded to 15 days in custody.

Police Thursday said the five people who fled from the quarantine facility established in Herethere Island Resort in southernmost Addu atoll have been apprehended, and have been remanded to custody for 15 days. The police have warned action against those who endanger the safety of others amid the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Herethere Quarantine Facility was established in Addu to quarantine people who travel to Addu city and to isolate people infected with COVID-19. No positive cases have been identified from the atoll thus far.
