Random samples collected from inmates, officers at Male' Prison

Random samples are being collected from inmates and officers at Male' Prison to understand the extent of COVID-19 transmission in the Maldives.

Maldives Correctional Services said samples of 15 inmates and 20 officers were randomly collected by the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC). The centre recently collected random samples from the Maafushi Prison and Asseyri Jail in Himmafushi. Corrections has confirmed that all samples collected from Maafushi Jail came back negative.

Three people at the Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Himmafushi recently tested positive for COVID-19. Authorities have collected more samples from staff and those seeking treatment at the centre.

1090 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives thus far. The Indian Ocean archipelago has recorded four COVID-19 fatalities to date.
