67 Bangladeshi nationals repatriated

67 undocumented Bangladeshi migrants have been repatriated to their country.

The Maldives Foreign Ministry said the group traveled back to Bangladesh on a military aircraft from Bangladesh that traveled to the Maldives carrying goods and supplies.

The government has previously revealed that over 500 Bangladeshi nationals will be repatriated under joint efforts with the national airline of Bangladesh. In this regard, 335 undocumented migrants traveled back to their country on Saturday.

Authorities have revealed that over 60,000 undocumented migrants are currently in the Maldives, most of whom are from
Bangladesh. While 1090 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, over 560 people are Bangladeshi nationals. Out of the four COVID-19 related fatalities recorded in the Maldives, one is of a Bangladeshi national.
