200 undocumented Bangladeshi nationals in the Mldives were repatriated on Monday. National carrier Maldivian Airlines said the individuals were flown to Dhaka, Bangladesh on one of their flights.
The government has been arranging several repatriation flights to evacuate undocumented expatriates in the Maldives. Tuesday's flight is the 10th such flight in recent days. Until now, over 1000 bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated to Bangladesh. The arrangements are being made by Economic Ministry and Foreign Ministry.
The government has previously stated that over 60,000 undocumented expatriates are in the Maldves, out of which most are from Bangladesh. Recently, the government also repatriated Indian, Indonesian, Thai and Sri lankan nationals.
1916 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives thus far. While 1027 Bangladeshi nationals are among the infected, 4 from Bangladesh were also among the 8 people who passed away in Maldives due to the disease.
