Maldives holds first online Cabinet meeting

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's cabinet on Tuesday held the Maldives' first online cabinet meeting. During the meeting, President Solih discussed the Government’s plans to ease the temporary restrictive measures imposed in response to COVID-19, with the ministers of his cabinet.

According to the President's Office, the President and cabinet members conferred on the planned actions to be taken by the relevant authorities with regard to easing restrictive measures in a safe and responsible manner and on the role each sectoral ministry will play as the country enters into a new normal phase.

During the discussions, the President and cabinet member also acknowledged the efforts and expertise of the country’s healthcare professionals; they noted that the Government following the advice of health experts is what has helped avert a national healthcare disaster. Similarly, the President also acknowledged the tireless ongoing multi-agency efforts to contain the virus, and expressed his gratitude towards the members of the cabinet for their hard work, said the President's Office.

The President attends all meetings virtually at this time, including daily meetings with the COVID-19 taskforce. The Parliament is also conducting its sittings online.
