The government has decided to repatriate 73 Maldivians stranded in two countries.
50 Maldivians residing in Belarus and 23 Maldivians in the United Kingdom (UK) are to be repatriated to the Maldives on Sunday. They will be travelling from London via Sri Lankan Airlines. Those residing in Belarus will travel to London from the capital of Belarus, Minsk on Saturday. The travelers are bearing the ticket expenses, and will be quarantined for 14 days upon their return to the Maldives.
The government has been repatriating locals stranded in foreign countries due to travel restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Several foreigners residing in the Maldives are also being repatriated to their countries through joint efforts of the Maldives government and the respective countries.
