Maldives records 101 new cases of COVID-19; tally at 1783

The Maldives has recorded a staggering 101 new cases of COVID-19.

The number of cases being detected in the Maldives has been declining, and the government recently eased some of the restrictions imposed on the capital Male' area. The rise in number of daily cases is the largest increase recorded since last week.

Speaking at the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC)'s daily press conference on Sunday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal said 101 samples tested positive for COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, between 1800 hrs until now. All cases are of direct contacts of known cases, and only two cases are unrelated to any known clusters, the doctor revealed.

Dr. Afzal further revealed that 79 people; all of whom are expatriates, belong to the same cluster. Although a spike in number of daily cases has been recorded, the increase is not due to the eases granted to the public, assured the doctor.
