Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the Phase II of harbour construction work of Ha. Kelaa.
According to the Planning Ministry, the project was handed over to MTCC last year on June 30. MTCC on Saturday said practical work of the project commenced on September 2019.
MTCC said 3496 cubic meters of the lagoon and 12,768 meters of harbour channel will be dredged, and a 20-meter breakwater and a revetment of 220 meters will be constructed. A 1445 square meter area will be paved, and street lights will be installed in the harbour area to upgrade Kelaa’s harbour to the modern standard. The contract was awarded for MVR 17.5 million to be completed within 410 days.
MTCC has been working on the harbour and reclamation projects without a halt irrespective of the current pandemic situation. Some of the projects have been handed back during the past two months after completion.
