Maldives-China to hold talks on Bilateral Coordination Mechanism

Maldives Foreign Ministry has revealed that discussions will take place between the Maldives government and Chinese officials regarding the bilateral coordination mechanism.

The ministry said the two countries will hold its first Director General level bilateral coordination mechanisms talk on Thursday. The meeting will be focused on the opening of borders and tourism, and the two countries will discuss cooperation on COVID-19 prevention, recovery of economy, tourism and safety measures, said the ministry.

The Maldives delegation will be headed by Ahmed Shiaan, Additional Secretary of Foreign Affairs and representatives from the Ministry of Tourism. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Civil Aviation Authority will also partake in the discussions. The Chinese delegation will be headed by Mr Yao Wen, Deputy Director General of the Asian Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives from National Health Commission of China, Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and Civil Aviation Administration of China.
