Arrangements made to repatriate Maldivians stranded in Belarus

Foreign Ministry has stated arrangement has been made to repatriate Maldivians stranded in Belarus.

26 Maldivian students studying in Belarus were stranded at Minsk Airport last Saturday.

Foreign Ministry said the issue has been resolved now, and all except 6 students have been repatriated. The remaining six students will travel on Tuesday.

The Ministry has urged the Maldivians who are residing in foreign countries and those who travel abroad to ensure if the borders are open in their respective travel routes since most nations are still closed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry further urged to check prior to purchasing tickets the requirement of travel insurance, and if the visa is required in the transiting country and to register with Health Protection Agency’s “Haalu Belun” portal.
