COVID-19: Third case identified in southernmost Addu city

A third COVID-19 patient has been identified in southernmost Addu City.

The Health Protection Agency, HPA on Sunday said a 58 year old local woman in Hithadhoo had tested positive for COVID-19 upon testing after completion of quarantine duration. The island, with a population of over 10,000 is currently on HPA monitoring status with entry and exit from the island temporarily prohibited.

The first case of COVID-19 was detected in Feydhoo island of Addu on Saturday. The second case was detected earlier on Sunday. Both individuals were completed upon completion of home quarantine.

The total number of positive cases identified in the Maldives has crossed 5000, with 19 deaths recorded to date. While most cases were identified in epicentre, capital Male’, the situation in Maldives seems to be worsening with more cases being identified from the atolls.
