Hoarafushi airport to reach completion in October

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company, MTCC has stated that the construction of Ha. Hoarafushi airport will reach completion in October.

MTCC said all materials required for the installation of the asphalt have been sent to the island, and the work will commence soon. The company faced several challenges due to travel restrictions imposed as a precautionary measure against COVID-19, but the project is ongoing at a good speed, said MTCC.

The airport will consist of a 1200-meter runway, 8635 cubic meters of the apron and a taxiway. A 9473 cubic meter parking area and 1718 cubic meters of fire extinguishing road is also being developed as part of the project.

Last August, 842,200 cubic meters of land was reclaimed to develop the airport. The revetment work of the area was completed in March this year.
