Switzerland's Edelweiss Air to resume operation to Maldives

Edelweiss Airline will resume operation between Zurich, Switzerland and Maldives at the end of this month.

Edelweiss Air is a Swiss leisure airline and the sister company of Swiss International Air Lines. It operates flights to European and intercontinental destinations from its base at Zurich Airport. The airline had been operating to the Maldives since 2018 but halted operation a few months ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline will resume operation to the Maldives on September 26, and will have two weekly flights.

Edelweiss’ Chief Commercial Officer (COO), Patrick Heymann said the resumption of flight operations will provide travel opportunities for those who wish to travel to the Maldives from Zurich.

Switzerland is among one of the few countries that have been successful in controlling COVID-19. The country is a hopeful market for Maldives tourism. Almost 34,000 tourists have visited the Maldives from Switzerland thus far this year.
