The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Maldives have fallen below 1,000 for the first time in recent weeks.
The Maldives has recorded 11,232 positive COVID-19 infections to date. While 226 days have passed since the first case was identified in the Maldives, 988 cases are currently active. Out of these, 39 patients are receiving treatment at medical facilities.
The total number of recoveries is now at 10,200. This is equivalent to 90.81 percent of total positive cases. 37 deaths have been recorded to date, with the most recent death recorded on Sunday.
The COVID-19 situation in the Maldives was most dire earlier in August. Over 3,900 cases and 12 deaths were recorded during August alone. However, the number of daily cases have since declined to two digit figures after having earlier recorded three-digit daily figures, with only 22 cases were recorded over the past 24 hours. Authorities recently partially relaxed some precautionary measures imposed in the Greater Male' Region.
