Three have been arrested in connection to the hijacking of a fishing vessel at sea near L. Vadinolhu.
Maldives Police Service said three people aged 25, 25 and 22 were arrested for the alleged hijacking of a fishing vessel.
According to the crew of the fishing vessel, ‘Faskuri’, a group of thirty men armed with sharp objects boarded the vessel late Sunday and threatened the captain of the vessel using knives. According to them, the men demanded the boat travel to a destination of their choice, and threatened the rest of the crew aboard the vessel to follow their instructions.
It has been reported that the boat is owned by Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir. He purchased the vessel from a man from Laamu Gan for MVR 7 million. However, the owner of the vessel said the vessel was not hijacked and that no persons were threatened. The group in question boarded the boat to settle a business dispute, he added.
