A balloon being used for by Google to provide internet services to rural and remote areas under its 'Google Loon' project fell into Maldivian waters on Thursday.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said the incident was reported to MNDF Male' Area Coast Guard by Maldives Civil Aviation Authority on Thursday morning. While the balloon had fallen in the area between Gdh. NAdella and GDh. Madaveli in the south, MNDF's Southern Area Coast Guard Squadron was deployed to the area along with officials form Hulhule Air Traffic Control (ATC) as well as the Civil Aviation Authority. No persons were injured in the incident, said MNDF.
