IGS to launch Maldives' first space program

Institute for Global Success (IGS) will be launching the Maldives’ first space program, the institute has announced.

Speaking at a press conference held Sunday to introduce the program, Chairman of IGS, Riffath Mohamed said space crafts will be designed, built and launched under the program. Scientific research will also be part of the program, said Riffath.

Riffath said the institute hopes to see Maldivian astronauts working in the space induestry, and that it aims to develop the youth to achieve the target.

IGS has developed its space program in partnership with KSF Space Foundation of the UK. Riffath said an MoU has been signed between both parties, and that training programs will be provided under the grant assistance extended by the foundation. The program is targeted for higher education students.

“Our first research project under the space program will be introduced early next year. The technical and feasibility studies of the project were conducted by industry experts, and we are currently working on finalizing project partners,” said Riffath.

Riffath added that IGS will continue to introduce programs that target leadership development.
