Institute for Global Success (IGS) has announced a Junior Astronaut Program under its newly established space program. This is the first time such a program is being held in the Maldives.
During a ceremony held Saturday to launch the program, Chairman and CEO of IGS, Riffath Mohamed said the program is being run in collaboration with the Canadian Space Agency. The program is aimed at students of grades 7, 8 and 9 who are interested in becoming astronauts. Participation has to be requested via IGS’s Facebook page.
Speaking at the ceremony, Riffath said field visits to the US’s Space Agency, NASA will be organized for the participants of the program for training purposes. Those who complete the program will receive certification from Canadian Space Agency, said Riffath. The program will become a foundation for Maldivian children to become astronauts, he added.
“Our hope is that more children are inspired to pursue a career of being an astronaut, and to seek a future in the space and science sector,” said Riffath.
IGS launched a special research program for university students earlier this month.
