Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has stated that it has received the required investment for the development of a tourism island in reclaimed suburbs Hulhumale’.
Speaking on a program aired by local channel RaajjeTV, Managing Director of HDC, Suhail Ahmed said the development concept for the tourism island is now ready, and that the investment required for the project has been secured after meeting with the relevant government institutions.
Suhail said the 3,000 rooms will be developed under the project, which is planned to be carried out in three phases. The project includes the construction of a number of five star hotels, guest houses as well as commercial luxury villas, said Suhail. The project will include all features of an integrated resort, he added.
Suhail said the tourism island will not directly be a part of Hulhumale, and will be a separate island. While a channel will be developed between the two sides of the island, the construction of the channel will be funded by the Saudi Fund for Development, said Suhail.
The island will be managed by HDC although separate developers will have responsibilities in implementing the project, said Suhail.
