Former Supreme Court Justice succumbs to COVID-19

Former Supreme Court Justice, Mujthaz Fahmy passed away on Thursday due to COVID-19. This is the 49th COVID-19 death registered in the Maldives.

The retired justice learnt he had COVID-19 while on a personal trip to Laamu atoll when he got tested after developing symptomss of the disease. Mujthaz first received treatment for COVID-19 at Gan Regional Hospital. He passed away after he was transferred to the government hospital, Dharumavantha Hospital in capital Male’.

Mujthaz had served as a judge for many years. He served as a judge on the Supreme Court from September 2008 to August 2010 during the transitional periof. He has also fulfilled the position of the President of the Judicial Service Commission as well as Chief Judge of the Civil Court. He was aged 61 at the time of passing.
