Over 60,000 tourists have visited the Maldives thus far this year.
According to statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, 60,581 tourists visited the Maldives during the first 21 days of 2021.
During this period, the most number of tourists arrived from Russia. 13,880 arrivals were recorded from Russia. The second most number of tourists arrived from India with 10,623 arrivals. Following behind was Ukraine and Kazakhstan, with 5,020 and 3,023 tourist arrivals respectively. A significant number of arrivals were also recorded from France, Romania, Germany, USA and Switzerland.
While 2,005 tourist arrivals were registered on New Year’s Day, 4,160 tourists arrived the following day. The number of arrivals fluctuated between 2,000 and 4,000 for the next few days.
555,399 tourists visited the Maldives in 2020. The government aims to host 1.5 million tourists during the current year.
