An investigation has been launched after a falling carpet roll put a worker at Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) in serious condition.
The accident took place at MPL on Friday night when a carpet roll being loaded using a crane fell on top of the worker. While the man, a labourer from Mina Investment Group, is in critical condition, several surgeries have been performed on him to tend to his injuries. He is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
A statement released by MPL said while an investigation has been launched into the accident, the labourers from Mina Investment Group who were present on the site at the time as well as the MPL employees involved in the operation have been suspended by MPL’s Accident and Investigation Committee. While the case is being investigated as a serious case, MPL assured that those responsible for the accident will be held accountable.
An accident has occurred at MPL once again after a 27 year old man passed away earlier in January when he succumbed to injuries sustained after getting trapped under a glass pallet that fell on top of him.
