Two cases identified in Hithadhoo; Addu still under monitoring

Southernmost Addu City has been put under the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s monitoring status with travel restrictions in place after two positive cases of COVID-19 were identified on Hithadhoo island.

28 positive cases are currently active in Hulhumeedhoo island of Addu city. Two positive cases that are unrelated to the Hulhumeedhoo cluster were identified in Hithadhoo on Saturday. Both cases identified in Hithadhoo were identified among the general public.

Authorities have closed schools of Addu city due to the positive cases. The city council has instructed the residents of the city not to go out unless necessary.

Meanwhile, a positive case linked to the Addu cluster has been identified in Thinadhoo island. The person is a direct contact of a person in the cluster. The island has also been put under HPA monitoring status.

Earlier last week, two people who returned to Male’ after traveling to Thinadhoo tested positive for COVID-19. Both had traveled to THinadhoo under a special permit issued by HPA.
